Playboy Returns to its Roots


The adults are back in charge over at Playboy, after a year-long ban on nudity the magazine is returning to its roots featuring tasteful nude pictorials. The iconic men's magazine celebrated the reversal on Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #NakedIsNormal.

In a Tweet, Cooper Hefner, son of magazine founder Hugh Hefner and the publication's chief creative officer, called the nudity ban a mistake. "Nudity was never the problem because nudity isn't a problem," Cooper Hefner wrote. "Today we're taking our identity back and reclaiming who we are."

Miss April, Nina Daniele

Cooper Hefner, 25, replaced his 90-year-old father as Playboy's chief creative officer last summer and is burdened with the task of bringing the brand into the 21st century, including updated take on The Playboy Philosophy, a column last penned by Hugh Hefner himself. In his version, Cooper lays out the direction he will be taking the brand and his vision for the publication.

The March/April issue of Playboy boasts several pictorial spreads, including Miss March, Elizabeth Elam, and Miss April, Nina Daniele. But also featured a lot of other content including stories by Can Jones, Adam Scott, and John Hornor Jacobs so you can tell your friends you get Playboy for the articles.

Playboy’s New March/April 2017 Magazine Captures the Creativity of the Brand’s New Chief Creative Officer, Cooper Hefner

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – FEBRUARY 13, 2017 – After taking the reigns as Playboy’s Chief Creative Officer last year, Cooper Hefner, in partnership with the content team, have unveiled the latest creative evolution of the brand online as well as in the March/April issue of the iconic magazine.

“This is a remarkably special moment personally and professionally that I get to share this issue of Playboy magazine with my Dad, as well as with readers,” said Cooper Hefner.  “It is a reflection of how the brand can best connect with my generation and generations to come.”

The March/April issue of Playboy magazine will feature the return of some familiar franchises, including:

·         Cooper Hefner’s updated take on The Playboy Philosophy penned nearly 40 years after his father’s last installment in the 1960’s, which converses about the current political and cultural climate in the US. 
·         The return of Playboy’s “Party Jokes” that provide a quick beat of humor and celebrates the playful side of the brand.
·         The debut of the “Heritage” section which shares the magazine’s past point of view that is more relevant today than ever before.

Another change to the print publication is the removal of “Entertainment for Men” from the cover.  Hefner added, “Playboy will always be a lifestyle brand focused on men’s interests, but as gender roles continue to evolve in society, so will we.”

And as it has always been known for, this issue is full of thought-provoking articles and interviews.  The March/April lineup includes:

·         Playboy Interview: featuring Scarlett Johansson who recently participated as a leading influencer during Washington DC’s Women’s March.
·         Profile: on cultural and political commentator Van Jones who rose to stardom by providing insightful commentary during the 2016 Presidential election.
·         20Q: with Adam Scott where the actor has a laugh and chats about his new mini-series on HBO, Big Little Lies.
·         Culture: Run The Jewels fight the power with their third record and their most provocative music to date.
·         A guide to the ins-and-outs of finding the best weed for every occasion, as well as a look back at Playboy’s advocacy in the legalization of marijuana.
·         Fiction: two installments featuring Supercops by Liesl Schillinger and The Domestic Lives of Superheroes by John Hornor Jacobs.

In addition, the magazine will feature pictorials including March Playmate, Elizabeth Elam; April Playmate, Nina Daniele; and a special edition of Playmates at Play, featuring a remix of Playmates shot by Mark Hunter (aka The Cobrasnake) as they explore the Playboy arcade after hours. The issue also features Scarlett Byrne, who in addition to appearing in her own pictorial, pens an essay about the importance of owning female sexuality and the double standards that still exist between women and men.
