The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team (VARX) looks to extend its winning streak at the final doubleheader event of the 2015 Red Bull Global Rallycross season at the Bushy Park Circuit on the island of Barbados. The team is coming off a nearly perfect weekend in Los Angeles where Scott Speed swept the field with two victories and teammate Tanner Foust claimed two podium finishes.
Scott Speed left Los Angeles with two first-place trophies and the new title of winningest driver in Red Bull Global Rallycross history. More importantly for his championship aspirations, he moved closer to the current points leader. With a maximum of 112 points on offer this weekend in Barbados, the driver of the No. 41 Merchant First Volkswagen Beetle GRC is looking to overcome the 13-point gap to the top of the championship standings.
“Right now, we’re in a great spot for the championship and I’m so excited to get this race weekend started,” said Speed. “We have our car and strategy figured out, and if it comes to making fewer mistakes than our competitors in the last three races, I would like to think we’re going to do that better than anyone else. This is such an exciting week for my family and I absolutely love this country, their beautiful beaches, and their passion for racing.”
Tanner Foust also stood on the podium twice in Los Angeles, bringing his season total to three after a win in Daytona. Currently sitting in sixth in the championship standings, the driver of the No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Beetle GRC is only 63 points out of first, poised to move up the standings with more strong finishes in Barbados.
“Barbados was a great season opener last year, and I‘m so glad to be coming back this year with our Volkswagen Beetle GRCs,” said Foust. “The team has worked really hard during the season to dial in our setup and I think we should have something special to show the Barbados fans.
This weekend, Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross will partner with Variety The Children’s Charity—an organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. The race team will host 40 local children at the track Saturday and Sunday, and give the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for four kids to experience ride-along with drivers Tanner Foust and Scott Speed.
“Variety The Children’s Charity is always seeking to bring diverse experiences to children whose views of the world are limited to their own village or community,” said Donnah Russell, Executive Director, Variety The Children’s Charity. “That is why we are so pleased to partner with the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team to bring smiles to the faces of these young children.”
Available now, the VARX Supercars app is free to download for iOS and Android users, providing race fans with the perfect mobile companion to every race weekend.
