1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe

by Michael Satterfield

Russo and Steele have booked a rare 1969 Camaro ZL1 for their January 2013 auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. One of less than 50 thought to be left in the world, with only 71 (including two prototypes) that were built. This example was ordered and sold new at Lavery Chevrolet, Inc. of Alliance, Ohio. It is one of only three ZL1s equipped with the COPO 9737 Sports Car Conversion package. Factory features include radio delete, M21 4-speed, Black Standard interior, X44 Trim Code, and Fathom Green paint.

This ZL-1 was a race car from day one and it is a former national record holder with extensive racing documentation. Complete with the original window sticker, other documents, and as-found photographs, it is a great example of the baddest purpose-built Chevy racing car ever created.
