The bodies of six people were discovered inside two classic Chevrolets after being pulled out of Foss Lake Tuesday, while many wait for positive identification of the victims. The 1969 Camaro and what looks like a early 1950′s Chevy sedan were discovered at the lake when officials were testing new sonar equipment. The cars are believed to be tied to two missing persons cold cases from around 40 years ago.
The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner will now be tasked with positively identifying the remains and trying to determine causes of death. The medical examiner says it could take anywhere from days to years to determine an identity, depending on the condition of the bodies.
The Camaro may be the car that 16-year-old Jimmy Allen Williams and two friends, 18-year-old Thomas Rios and 18-year-old Leah Johnson, were last seen in. The teens disappeared on Nov. 20, 1970 and have not been seen again. The Chevrolet sedan might belong to another cold case where three people went missing from Canute, Ok in 1969.
Debbie McManamman thinks her grandfather, John Alva Porter, was in the Chevy.
“I mean, he was just gone, ” she said. “No trace at all. His money was in the bank, his house was intact and he was gone. So over 40 years we’ve been looking for him.”
