We did a story on the Ford Mach II concept that was built by Kar Kraft in 1966, but while that was lost in the 1970's another was born the Mach 2 concept. The Ford Mach 2 was design by Larry Shinoda in 1970 as an answer to the Chevrolet Corvette. It was never built and based on a spare De Tomaso Pantera chassis that was laying around Ford. The dream died when Ford partnered with De Tomaso to sell the Pantera in the USA through their Lincoln-Mercury dealer network to save the cost of producing the Mach 2.
